How To Get Murmuring Obols

Murmuring Obols drop from world events, dungeon events, and certain side quest reward caches. Your main source of Obols in Diablo 4 will come from open world events that occur throughout Sanctuary. For clarity, we are referring to random events here, not world bosses like Ashava.

Completing an event with mastery—completing its main and side objectives—will award 35 Obols to your character. Dungeons and Cellars also have a fairly high chance of spawning events of their own, awarding Obols when completed.

Increasing Your Obol Storage

By default, you may only carry 500 Obols at a time. Any additional Obols obtained will be wasted, so it's important you either spend your Obols or increase your carrying capacity. You can increase your Obol storage by reaching Rank 4 Renown with each region and by collecting Altars of Lilith. R4 Ren💎own increases your Renown cap by +80, and Altars of Lilith can upgrade your capacity by ꧋+20.

What To Spend Obols On

Our listed strategy is tailored toward the early/mid-game of Diablo 4. We'll update this section when more efficient strategies are discovered.

For those looking to farm a ton of Obols in a short timeframe, we highly recommend farming events north of Menestad, a town in Fractured Peaks. Here is the strategy:

1. Load into Menestad and head north. An event should spawn directly north of you.
   • Check the event to see if it's a quick one. The event type changes every hour.

2. Complete the event like normal.
3. After collecting your loot, open a portal to Kyovashad.
4. Teleport from Kyovashad to Menestad.
5. Head back to the event. It should respawn.
   • If it doesn't, teleport to Kyovashad and try again.

In essence, we're going to complete the event and immediately return to Kyovoshad. We then teleport to Menestad to reset our instance, giving you a high chance of finding another event in the same location. If you do not teleport to Kyovashad every run, you'll keep loading into the same instance.

Each event gives 35 Obols if you complete the side objective. A good build can clear an event in roughly two minutes if it's short, three if it's a longer one. With some practice, you can easily earn 500 Obols per hour.
