We all love a good side quest. They can range from telling compelling stories of their own, to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:being as simple as a fetch quest. There's not always an urgency, but there is consid💯eration required.
I'll Have To Come Back Later For That Order
In Death Stranding, you can't just be taking every sub and standard order available at each facility you visit. You first need to consider what it is you'll have to carry, how much it weighs, the type of cargo, whether it's breakable, and where it needs to be del🅠ivered.
There's no convenient storage space you can chuck something in until later, as even the larger vehicles will fill up quickly - especially when you pick up more orders along your actual route. Plus, you might find lost cargo and materials out in the wilderness, and grabbing theꦛm while you can means having the space for them, too. Sure, you could take the orders and then just leave the cargo in the private locker there until you come back, but you may forget you have an open order.
As I was playing the game, I returned to Mexico once I'd learned more orders had opened up on that map. It's a relatively simple map, and I knew it well, so I🦩 thought it would be pretty straightforward to take on some orders there. Instead, it took me four hours as I was met with timed deliveries, many heavy cargo trips, back-and-forth orders popping up, and some interesting objectives around covert operations. And this was all in a truck, too.
That is something I actually admire about Death Stranding 2; I couldn't just go grab every side quest and check them off my list - I had to consider the order in which I completed things, plan my route accordingly, set aside cargo while I undertook more local collections, and spend a lot of time revisiting facilities for an order I didn't have the capacity to accept earlier on. It makes for some tedious management when it comes to handling side quests, and honestly, that couldn't be morꦿe refreshing. I can’t build up a list of orders I'll get to eventually; I had to finish those orders I took on in order to make room for more.
Even Typical Quest Objectives Are More Complex
One of the orders I took on while in Mexico was to dispose of some explosives in a bandit camp. Sure, I proba🍰🌳bly could have gone in there with a sniper or a shotgun and dealt with both the explosives and the bandits head-on, but that didn't seem like a smart move. Instead, I aimed to get the explosives away from the camp, and then detonate them far from any settlement.
Now, typically in games, you'd sneak in, put the explosives in your inventory, and leave. Here, I needed to lug eight giant canisters of explosives out of the camp, load them onto my truck hidden nearby, and get them far away. For this, I parked my truck behind an obstacle, grabbed my floating cargo carrier, and headed in. I kept to stealth under the cover of night, picking off any straggling enemies that might cause an issue, and located the two separate storage locations for the explosives. As I hit each location, I would have to make it back to my truck, dragging a big pile of stolen cargo behind me, hoping no one would notice, before heading in for the other lot. Once they were all loaded up, I would drive carefully away (very carefully) to a✅ spot out in the desert to dispose of them.
To me, this added layer of complexity to what would normally be ꦇa simple objective is a shining example of how even the most basic side quests can be made more interesting - not by adding story or characters or avoiding tropes altogether, but by making the details more interesting to deal with. This is what Death Stranding does so well, and as I head back to Australia to continue taking on orders, I can't wait to carefully consider each new objective that comes my way.
