Pretend You Won, Explained

When you're fighting a boss fight in Death Stranding 2, you have the option to skip the fight completely. To see the option, you have to lose the fight.

For example, during my battle against the Giant Ghost Mech in Main Order 39, Sam lost all his health and he entered the Seam, the place he goes when he's about to Repatriate. Normally, here you'll see the option to press Square and Repatriate, but a second option appeared: press Triangle and Pretend You Won.

If you press Triangle, a window will pop up and explain that you'll skip the battle as if you've won it, but your order results will be affected.

After using Pretend You Won, three diapos🌠itives narrating the battle took place. After reading them, I watched the regular cutscene that would take place if I had won the battle as ๊expected.

When it comes to the Results screen, you'll read the unique label "Imaginary Victory", with a drawing of Sam sleeping. You'll still receive likes for completing the order, just less than if you'd have a🧸ctually fought ꧒the boss. For example, I received 505 likes for my Imaginary Victory, and 200 extra for "eliminating" the Giant Ghost Mech.
