Summary

  • Dead Space 2 won't be receiving a remake treatment due to apparently lacklustre sales of the first entry
  • This is a shame because the remake teases an expanded universe that I would have loved to see built upon
  • What does this mean for the future of the property, and single-player survival horror in the triple-A space?

The 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dead🌼 Space 2 remake is officially not happening. Despite 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the original remake teasing an expanded universe set to be built upon, it seems sales of the reimagining weren’t substantial enough to warrant a sequel. It still sold millions, but in the landscape of modern gaming, that just doesn’t cut the mustard. As a result, much of the team has been folded into 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Battlefield in an effort to bolster its future single and multip𝓰layer experiences. It was nice while it lasted...

I’m on the side of Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb who claimed that Dead Space 2 was being considered by EA prior to its cancellation. A corporation of that size wouldn’t tell the truth even if things were set to become a reality before plans changed. It obviously sees more money in series like Battlefield over a 🔥single-player experience like Dead Space, and thus is shifting current resources to make that possible.

Battlefield 2049 is in d👍ecent shape right now, and the hope is that future instalments will be able to fully embrace live service components and c🌳ompete with the big boys after a shakey last few entries. I’m not sure it will, but either way, I already miss what Dead Space could have been. Ever since its inception, the survival horror series just can’t catch a break.

Dead Space has always performed below expectations for Electronic Arts, despite th♒e fact it was never destined to hit numbers obtained by Call of Dut🐠y or Battlefield.

But now plans for a sequel have been scrapped, I have to ask what was the point of reviving Dead Space in the first place if you never planned to carry it forward? Now, the remake feels like an anomaly, one which exists in the same world as the original, whic🦂h also plays well on modern hardware.

It also makes notable changes to the narrative and characters, turning Isaac Clarke into a far more sympathetic and reserved character rather than the dude-bro grizzled survivor seen in 2 and 3. He is a different protagonist, which makes it seem like there were plans to expand and subve🐻rt this vision with further remakes.

Dead Space Remake:Isaac Running Afoul Of A Necromorph On The Ishimura

I can’t wholly recommend you play the original versions of Dead Space 2 and 3 if you hope to experience the full story, with its weaker depiction of Isaac Clarke and increasing focus on action over horror removing much of what makes the remake so brilliant. The newer game innovates on everything that came before in all the right ways, mostly in subtle changes such as making the levels of the original a fully-fledged open world, alongside giving Isaac a voice, so he is no l🥃onger a passive lapdog while fending for his life against impossible odds.

He is a better man, and the remake adds further detail to his backstory and motive for escaping the USG Ishimura. I have to imagine theoretical remakes of Dead Space 2 & 3 would have taken these🔜 further. Now we&rsq🌱uo;ll never know, and honestly, seeing Dead Space revived and treated with reverence only to see it then be torn away from us all over again, for much the same reasons as it had been a decade earlier, is worse than the series never making a comeback in the first place.

I feel bad for newcomer🌜s who jumped in wi🐭th the remake and now won’t be able to see the rest of this story play out.

Electronic Arts promised a change after its success with Sta🀅r Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, as it had suddenly turned a corner on its attitude towards single-player games and was willing to embrace some of its established franchises for the first time in decades. We were foolish in expecting a capitalist leopard to change its spots, because now we’re back at square one staring down the barrel of a future defined by Battlefield and superhero video games in a world where bot🐷h have been on the decline in recent years. That’s not a future I have much interest in...

Dead Space Isaac Clarke standing in front of a dead crewmate with "Cut Off Their Limbs" written in blood on the wall next to them

I know it’s arguably too late to show your support in the hopes that a sequel will emerge, but I’d give Dead Space a shot if you haven’t already. The remake is a masterful horror game in every way, with exceptional 𒀰combat, hellish atmosphere, and a tense, self-contained story which the team likely planned to expand, but which still works in isolation. I just wish it wasn’t all we ever got.
