I wrote five months ago that 1﷽68澳洲幸运5开奖网:2023 is the year o𒊎f the indie fishing game, and as we approach 2024 I stand by that statement. Admittedly, at the time I wasn’t aware of Dave the Diver develꦆoper MintRocket’sℱ Nexon connection, and would no longer class it as an indie game, but those of us who love fishing minigames are eati෴ng (sushi) this year.

I wager that I’ll be the only writer at TheGamer to have both 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dave the Diver and Dredge in my top five when it comes to our 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:personal Game of the Year lists. Dave the Diver is, quite simply, the most fun gameplay loop I’ve encountered all year, if not longer, and the myriad minigames keep things interesting. Whether it’s a random rhythm game or following a baby dolphin to a sunken submarine that you have to break into, the💯re’s always ✃something completely unexpected to take you by surprise and bring a smile to your face.

Editor’s Note: Ben will be the second writer to have both Dave the Diver and Dredge in his top five, after 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Harry Alston.

Dredge might be the opposite. I’d go as far as to say the gameplay loop can be a little frustrating at times, but that’s the point. You’re not meant to be fishing at night, you’re not meant to fish too greedi🅷ly or too deep. The game creates tension with spectacular effect, and the chthonic influence is strong. There’s nothing like hauling your first abyssal 🦄creature into your hold, mutated third eye and all, and wondering exactly what you’ve got yourself into.

I never thought these two games would even acknowledge each other, let alone crossover. But in addition to making a surprising Dave the Diver follow-up with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a PvPvE zombie shooter, Min🦩tRocket last week announced a collaboration with Black Salt Games for Dave the Diver x Dredge DLC.

In an evening that also saw the announcement of an Apex Legends/Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth cros🎐sover featuring Crypto as Cloud and Wraith as Tifa, this little fishing collab stole the show for me. I still wish it was more about awards and less about trailers, but I’ll admit to getting excited about this one. Dredge’s Pale Reach DLC was the perfect excuse to jump back into its accursed waters, and I’m eager for the opportunity to see how these two disparate fishing games come together.

Split image of Dave the Diver

If you thought that catching a bedevilled barracuda was bad enough in Dredge, its decomposing corpse burning through your hull with the strength of acid, I can only imagine what it would be like in Dave the Diver. The trailer shows us snapshots of ♔skeletal sharks lunging for poor Dave, evil creatures grasping at his flippers and floundering in his wake.

A part of me wonders if this will ruin the expertly-crafted tension of Dredge. The slow clicking of your rod as you reel in a creature is intense, not knowing wh🔯ether your catch will be a feast or an abomination. Simply swimming up to a mutated stingray and shooting it with a harpoon just doesn’t have the same effect, and some of that Lovecraftian mystery will undoubtedly be lost.

Dredge: The Captain And His Boat Sailing In Calmer Waters

Dredge’s loss will be Dave the Diver’s gain, however. Night dives are currently just another biome, a chance for different fish to spawn and for you to serve different creatures in your restaurant with a side of rice and wasabi. Now, diving at nighttime will be even more risky. I wonder if Dave will be chased b🉐y ghost sharks or plagued by ethereal terrors. Will MintRocket introduce some kind of sanity metre to ensure it doesn’tಞ all get too much for our plucky scuba diver?

I dﷺon’t know exactly what this Dave the Diver and Dredge cros꧑sover will entail, but colour me excited. These are two of my favourite games of the year, and this DLC feels tailor-made to my tastes. I’m happy that Black Salt Games is potentially getting a triple-A payday from Nexon, and I’m happy that I get to play this thrilling crossover. Set Astarion to work behind the sushi counter, and you’ll have my 2023 completely in a nutshell.
