Snacks are based off the main areas in which you work: farm, mine, and ocean. This way, no matter what tasks you're working on, you'll have the ability to craft snacks from something in the area even during early game.

Free Spa Stamina Recovery Option

Once you get the kitchen, you still can't cook anything until you purchase other utensils. In Coral Island recipes require specific components such as a pot, grill, or skillet.
You have the option to try making food once you have at least one utensil, but you're more likely to end up with a ruined dish that will sap your stamina instead of restore it. It's better to wait until you have unlocked recipes so you aren't wasting your produce.
Once you have some recipes, you'll be able to make dishes that give you decent stamina restoration with only a couple ingredients. You may still prefer to spend some time sitting in the hot springs, but stocking up on your own food when you want to make progress in the mines or ocean will help you progress faster.
