There is one way to get around that takes all the legwork out of the equation: fast travel. This unravels a whole branch of side quests, not to mention how it makes it a breeze to get from A to B. You'll need to tackle two important quests first - and here's how.
Mythical Dream - Walkthrough
Early on in your adventures, you will wake up one morning from a rather peculiar dream. To trigger this, you'll have to have first investigated one of the creepy old trees 💞on the map, such as the one to the bottom left of your farmyard.
After you have this dream, you'll receive a strange letter in the post:
Following the instruction, exit your house and turn left, running across the top length of your farmyard. A trail of floating pink petals will guide your way through a dense patch of woodland, and you will reach a strꦏange clearing with four stone sigils etched into the ground.
You will now meet The Chieftain, face to face. He is an ancient spirit, ꧑now awoken from a long slumber thanks to you, and he would like your help in restoring Coral Island to its former glory.
Firstly, he must conduct a sacred ritual to open your Third Eye. After a short cutscene, wherein the stone tiles on the ground come alive with light and colour, he tells you that you will now be able to decipher the strange old language you might have se♉en inscrib♔ed by the spooky old trees dotted around town.
This is only the start of your journey into the Island's mysterious past, however, and the Chieftain will send you on one more quest to the Lake Temple.
Temple Offering - Walkthrough
Travel east towards the large lake, just above the village square. Walk across using the underwater stone pathway🌺, and mak💖e your way towards the altar at the top of the Temple.
Here, you will commune with a disembodied spirit. They promise you a reward - in this case, the ability to fast travel as well as one other reward - in return for a tribute offering. You can choose whichever offering you please, but the Essential Offering is the simplest to fulfill at this stage🌞 in the game:
- Grass fibre (from cutting tall grass using the scythe)
- Tree sap (from chopping trees)
- Stone (from mining rocks)
- Wood (from chopping trees)
- A tree seed from either the pine, maple, or oak trees
Once you complete the Essential Resources offering, you will also unlock the Recycling Machine which can be placed on your farm, allowing you to turn those stacks of trash into useable scrap. These can be used to craft a number of goods, such as the kelp-transforming Extractor.
How To Use Fast Travel On Coral Island
After unlocking fast travel, you'll be able to travel immediately to the fast travel post on your farm.
Take a walk to the beach as soon as you can, and activate the post just at the opposite end of the diving platform before the stairs lead down to the sandy beach.
Noꩵw, you should be able to walk up to the posts at the lake, your house, and the diving pier and travel across the map easily. No more late-night trips to the medic after passing out on the long walk home, hurray!
To unlock more fast travel points, simply keep making offerings at the temple altars you'll find around town.
