Black Ops 6 Just Launched A Few Hours♋ Ago And Someone Already Has A Gold Camo
The grind is already well underway.
While a powerful tool, it's buried in the options menu and not thoroughly explained. In this guide, we cover how to access HUD customization in Black Ops 6, giv🗹e a short explanation of how each setting works, and list our recommend🧜ed settings for Multiplayer and Zombies. We also showcase all ten HUD layouts.
How To Customize Your HUD
Virtually every element of your heads-up display (HUD) can be adjusted from the Interface tab in the options menu. Once there, head to the "Gameplay HUD" tab to check all of your HUD options. There are dozens of options in this tab, but the most important one you should focus on is HUD Presets. If you don't see this option, you'll need to enter a matcꦇh or a pregame lobby to adjust your preset.
Disregarding 🍨presets for a moment, here's every🌳thing you can change:
HUD Bounds |
Sets the margins for HUD elements. You can m⛎ake it smaller to squish elements together. |
---|---|
Mini Map Shape |
Set the minimap to be round or square. Square gives more information at the cost🐓 of screen space. |
Mini Map Rotation |
Rotates the minimap when you look around. We suggest leaving this on. |
Radar |
Removes 2D map information from your min🌃imap, 🧸making it easier to see enemy markers. Visually looks similar to Halo and Destiny. |
Compass Type |
Displays your car🌞dinal direction and closest POI on you🅠r HUD. Can be displayed as a horizontal bar (MW2019), above yo💞ur minimap, or disabled outright. |
Widget Visibility |
Adjust the opacity of most HUD elements (ammo, equipment, score, etℱ cetera). These values are tied to your chosen HUD preset. |
HUD Layouts
The largest change in this year's Call of Duty is the addition of HUD layouts. A HUD layout reorganizes your entire in-game display, moving your minimap, compass, ammo indicators, and more. This is a radical shift from past CoD titles where these elements were always static. If you want your minimap to be at th🦋e bottom of your HUD or remove ammo indications entirely, now you can.
As of launch, there are ten layout configurations you can experiment with. Each layout shifts elements of your HUD around, which you can then further customize through minimap and visibility adjustments. You can't personally move any HUD elements; your HUD layout alone determines the position of each widget. For example, if you want a minimap at the bottom of your HUD, you need to use a lay⛎out with a bottom-anchored minimap.

Minimap Settings
You might have noticed that not every minimap looks the same in the HUD layouts above. That's due to minimap settings you can ꧅adjust in the "Gameplay HUD" tab. There are five options worth adjusting:
- Mini Map Shape: Set the borders of your minimap to either be a circle or square.
-
Mini Map Rotation: Rotate the minimap with your character.
- Off: The minimap background remains static. Your player icon moves.
- On (default): The minimap background moves. Your player icon remains static.
- Minimap Size: Self-explanatory. Larger minimaps don't give more information; everything gets scaled up.
-
Minimap Opacity: Determines how transparent your minimap is. Lower values are easier to see through.
- Set this to zero to remove your minimap entirely.
- Radar: Removes map information from your minimap, making it easier to track enemies.
You need to be in the "HUD Presets" menu to adjust your minimap's size an🌠d ⛦opacity.
What might stick out from that list is Radar, a new feature that allows you to remove all map information from your minimap. This leaves it as a grayscale interface that only displays information on players and objectives. It does not chang🧔e the way your minimap actually functions, but it can be helpful for more experienced players who don't need map information at a glance.
Many players will also gravitate towards increasing their minimap size. While this can be helpful if you sit far away from your display, it does not confer additional information. A minimap at 80% size gives the same information as a minimap at 150% scale. If you want a more detailed minimap, you'll need to use the Forward Intel perk. That said, a square minimap does give slightly more information than a circle minimap.
Visual Adjustments
Beyond your minimap settings, you can also adjust the opacity of your HUD widgets. These are consolidated pieces of information like your ammo counter, equipment charges, medals, and the kill feed. Reducing any of these settings will make the widget more transparent. If you set any of them to zero, the element will be re🍸moved from your HUD💙 entirely.
If you want 𝄹a cleaner HUD, try turning off Medals, Player Toasts, and the Score Feed.
Interface Colors
Color filters are back in Black Ops 6 and retain the same functionality. You can adjust the color palette of your interface and inject color overlays into the game itself. The HUD Color Palette drop-down allows you to change the color profile of your interface, including options for most colorblind conditions.
Under your interface options are a handful of color filter settings. This applies to the game itself, applying a color filter ove🌄r 🌳everything. If you find the game a little too gray, try Filter 2 with a low intensity value (30-50%).
Recommended HUD Settings
I prefer to have most HUD elements close together in FPS titles, so I recommend Target Tracker as a baseline. This moves all critical information to the bottom of the HUD📖, including the minimap. ⛎Having it this low on the screen might seem jarring at first, but it greatly cleans up the screen once you get used to it.
With a minor tweak, this also makes a great Zombies HUD. Before you stꦑart a match, set your minimap opacity to zero.
For more specific options, set your minimap to 60% opacity and use a minimap compass. This removes the compass at the bottom of the screen while making the minimap blend in more with the background. I disable radar since I prefer having map information, but feel free to keep it as-is. You can clean up more of the screen by disabling Medals and player toasts, although this isn't mandatory.
