Tennocon 2025 is here, and the biggest Warframe an🍷nouncement is the upcoming story chapter: The Old Peace. In it, we’re going back to the Operator’s story, and as we find out more about what transpired in the past, the present of the game will take us to uncharted territory in the Tau system, which is why we sat down to talk with Rebb Ford, Creative Director, and Megan Everett, Community Director.
We are leaving 1999 behind, and even though the consequences of what happened in that chapter can be seen in the Isleweaver update, the action is m꧑oving both to the present time and the past, to see The Operator (aided b𓄧y Lotus and Loid) trying to navigate some hidden memories from their past in Tau, studying for the Tenno Schools.
We’re Finally Going To Tau
🌜“So, what we're building toward is to look at the operator's connection to Tau and the Drifter's connection to Entrati, so that when all things converge next year on Tau, we all are going there,” says Ford. “Right now, the operator doesn't have a reason to go to Tau; instead, it’s the Drifter who does, so we need everybody to want to go there for their reasons, and this is setting that up.”
While the Old Peace demo presents a complete aesꦓthetic makeover for the Operator (as they’re the oldest customizable characters in the game), perhaps one of the most interesting parts involves an expansion on the Tenno Focus Schools system, introduced ten years ago in The Seco🎃nd Dream.
“Well, there has always been a dream to have Focus be more than just two abilities,” explains Ford. “They wꦆere once morไe than that when Sentient and Tenno lived together in harmony; the schools that were established had sentient roots, and there were things to learn from them.
So you'll see us activate what we're calling our Ultimates for the Focus S🥂chools. You'll see a very explosive animation, almost in the style of a Final Fantasy 14 Limit Break, where the Tauron school combines with the Nar𓂃amon school to unleash a special attack, which also involves the Operator and their Warframe working together for the first time.”
The Devil’s Triad Appears
Besides this upcoming update, a new Warframe and two Protoframes were a🦩lso teased, which positively answers the community's question of whether there will be more Protoframes in the future or not. This time, these characters come as part of what will be called the Devil’s Triad, and alongside the Devil warframe, Uriel, both Harrow and Wisp will get human equivalents. How do they play into the overall story?
“What we can say for now is that Albrecht had a role and had a curiosity, and right now he's pursuing a question: Can the Orokin ever be forgiven?” says Ford. “But, what we kno𒈔w about Uriel and why perhaps he's with these two Gothic-looking proto frames will be answered in our October devstream!”
Regard꧅less of the trailers and teasers, the focus is on 🌊the Tennocon itself, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. While the venue is the same, how much has the event evolved throughout the years?
“It's crazy to think that we've been using the same RBC space for what is going to be our tenth year,” Everett says. “The first one we ever did, we just had that ballroom, and it has now become not only the entire venue, but last⛎ year we even experimented with a tent outside and food trucks in the parking lot.
Trying to go bigger in the same amount of space has been an ex💃citing challenge, and I think this year it’s the biggest we've gone for sure in terms of excitement for our players and giving them something big to do during the first day.“
The First Tennoconcert
This also marks a particular occasion, as the first Tennoconcert will occur, something that has been in the works behind the scenes for a while𓄧, and marking the occasion is Rebb Ford, as she will play the bass with the band.
“Saturday is the big day with the reveals, but having the Friday and the concert, which I like, I remember when Rebb took me to FanFest for Final Fantasy 14, a🗹nd sꦅaw The Primals,” tells Everett. “I was like, ‘Ah, this is so sick, what if we ever did this?’
And now we're doing that with Matt Chalmers, the composer, and the Wa💟rframe band, and it's very obvio🌊us over the past years how much music has influenced where Warframe has gone with the 1999 update. We also recorded a live orchestra for the Old Peace demo.”
“And people in the communit▨y joke that Warframe is a sound studio that makes the game,” Ford adds, laughing.
“Yeah, the music has just taken us to another level,” adds Everett. “And to be able to present a true concert to our pla🏅yers, it's going to be a fun and unique experience, and getting to stream that and see the reactions will be very cool.
However, while we're here setting up the concert, we still need to be at the RBC Centre, religiously practicing the demo for Tennolive. It's a lot to juggle, but I♊ know we’ll pull it off, and we say this every year, but this will be the best TennoCon we've ever had.”
With all the upcoming content for Warframe and Soulframe, fans have never been more exci🤪ted to converge at London, Ontario, and even though Tennocon has come and gone, the ripples can still be felt; Warframe fans are one of the most energetic communities in gaming, and this event proves once again that the game, and the energy, will continue for years to come.
