Tank Changes Galore

Mei stormed into Heroes of the Storm as the newest Tank, and she has been♏ a little too powerful relative to alternative characters. Stitches has overall gained a buff from a few changes that make him as viable as Johanna for wave clear. Although his health and regeneration have bꦬeen slightly nerfed, his Slam ability now costs less mana to use and more importantly now has a build in functionality of dealing 50% bonus damage to Minions and Mercenaries.

This is huge as Stitches now has excellent lane clear potential from the beginning of the game without needing to build around his Slam ability. In addition, his Hook range has increased from 11 to 12, so expect enemies to be shocked as they are plucked from what used to be a safe range frไom Stitches.

Blaze is also seeing some changes that will help with lane clearing, among other things. Most of his changes are less about making him more or less effective as a Tank, and more about diversify♔ing the types of builds that players can select while still being viable.

While the Tanks take up the majority of the patch notes, other characters have also seen some slight changes. Xul and Yrel are the only Bruisers that have received changes, and put simply, thꦜey are modest and unlikely to change how the characters function at a fundamental level.

The same can be said of the three Healers who have changes as well: Kharazim, Lt🔜. morales, and Rehgar. Bloodlust has been nerfed, with its duration down to six seconds from eight, and healing down from 40% to 30% per basic attack. While this might seem like a major nerf, the Ultimate ability has been so strong for too long now, and this makes it far more fair without changing its fundamental design.

Cassia too has seen a small nerf to her base damage, health, regeneration, and three of her popular talents at level 1, 4, and 7. To some this might seem like Cassia has taken a big hit, but she is in all likelihood still going to remain an overpowered beast in the right hands. Such is the ๊problem with creating a ran💙ged Assassin with such a high skill cap, as anyone can do well with her, but some can do wonders.

Tychus has received an interesting set of changes, to say the least. Put simply, Blizzard🧜 has buffed the majority of his Overkill ability talents and look to have made it viable to level a build entirely around that ability. With the proper use of Frag Grena✤de and Run and Gun, we may be seeing the return of a far deadlier Tychus who can burn down even the most resilient of targets in a matter of seconds even when safely positioned.

Putting It All Together, What Lies Ahead?

The patch notes are well worth the read, even if they are quite long. This is one of the beefier updates we have seen in a while to Heroes of the Storm, and it is clear that the developers are attempting to curt♚ail the over reliance on certain characters and abilities.

The good news is that these changes all look great at most levels of play, especially in terms of selecting viable Tanks. The minor changes to characters like Muradin and E.T.C. are only going to affect high-skilled teams, but changes to Blaze, S♔titches, Garrosh, and even Cho will give lower ranks some great versatility in who they can use.

The real question is what might lie ahead. Technically the game continues to be developed on a skeleton crew of employees at Blizzard following their decision to abruptly gut the esports part of the game and carve up the team to go work on different projects. However, releasing such a large patch so close to a develop AMA could indicate that something is in the works. While we do not want to get our hopes up, we certainly do hope that there is something new and exciting in the works for Heroes of the Storm!
