Borderlands captured many fans with its quirky humor, cel-shaded graphics, and addictive gameplay. But the lore featuring powerful monsters, cryptic alien🎃s, and unfettered corporate mayhem is what keeps fans coming back.

As even casual Borderlands players know, the Eridians created the Vaults. They also left the Guardians there to protect or defend against whatever was in those Vaults. Borderlands 3 even confirms that Nekrotafeyo is the Eridian home planet -- something that doesn't quite jive with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:past series lore.

10 ⛄ Atlas Was The First To Reverse Engineer Eridian Tech

That's right: the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:gun manufacturer now operated by Rhys was the first to get their hands on alien tech. Given that their weapons didn't need ammo, they could teleport places, and had the Vaults, Atlas was eager to discover their secrets.

🌼Unfortunately, the Borderlands 🐭universe also suffers from hyper cut-throat Capitalist competition like our own world. The corporate game soon became about one-upping the other companies than helping humanity progress.

8 Nyria🏅d & Their Own Objectives Wiped Out The Eridians 👍

Borderlands 3 definitely took some liberties when it comes to already established lore. For instance, it used to be that only six Sirens existed a🅺t any time, but BL3 upped that to seven. However, the game also revealed the story of that seventh♋ Siren and her part in imprisoning the Destroyer.

Eridian history already showed that, before the Siren's assistance, the Eridians had created Vaults and imprisoned other Guardians. But Nyriad's logs reveal that she leveraged the lives of billions of Eridians to put the Destroyer in the Vault. Something something, equivalent exchange, eh?

7 ﷽ They Knew🔜 Of Sirens And How To Find Them

So yes, the Eridians made a habit of capturing dangerous aliens and jailing them in pocket, purple-goo arch dimensions. However, it wasn't until they encountered the Destroyer that they needed the help of a Siren.

BL3 established that the Eridians not only knew of the Sirens but knew about each one's unique abilities. They also knew how and where to find them as they recruited Nyriad to help with the Destroyer. But Nyriad's logs also suggest that they were desperate or that she, herself, was a "last resort" kind of option.

6 "Homeworld" Also Means "F🍨irst Landing" In Eridian

Borderlands Nekrotafreyo broken planet and floating cube

As with all lore in Borderlands, the game seems to just drop huge bombshells and then never make use of them later. This happens with yet another of Nyriad's Echo Logs where she mentions that the Eridian word for "Homeworld" also means "first landing". Given the fact that Nekrotafeyo doesn't feel very similar to Eleseer -- another Eridian location, it stands to reason that this shred of lore suggests they don't come from this universe.

Or, as some fans have suggested, the same plane or dimension in which the games take place. More appealing, however, is the fact that the Destroyer eats worlds. The Eridians𝄹 took up the mantle of shackling it seemingly for no reason. What if they did it because they were refugees and wanted to stop future world destruction?

5 The Eridians Created Cyborgs (The Guardians/The Watcher) 💝🅰

Borderlands Eridian Guardian and Watcher

Well, they're "biochemical constructs" more than anything and they guard Vaults. They guard anything that the Eridians didn't want filthy plebians touching or messing around with. However, the Watcher is a bit different. Having only appeared in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel thus far, the Watcher seems to be telekinetic and clairvoyant as it warns of a "coming war".

She also warned Zarpedon about Jack's eventual corruption and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Hyperion takeover. Nyriad also mentions that the Watcher...watched...while she harvested Eridian souls to imprison the Destroyer. If the Eridians could create one construct with clairvoyance and intelligence, why are the Guardians more lim🍨ited in their abilities?

3 Eridians Cr❀eated Pandora & Elpis

Borderlands Elpis after Lilith phasewalks it next to the Pandora Vault

As part of creating the ultimate jail for the Destroyer, the Eridians had to fabricate an entire planet (and its moon). In fact, Elpis was a brain fart on behalf of the advanced alien race. It served as a key for the Destroyer's Vault and was very much "hidden in plain sight", so to speak.

RELATED: Tales From The Borderlands Character꧂ Fans Love & Hate

Fans don't know how the Eridians did this, but BL3 confirmed that the "Vault" is just the doorway. The actual prison is Pandora itself. Also: are the people who had been living on Elpis just dead now or...?

2 ♚ They Presumably Cr♑eated Eridium

Borderlands 3 Nyriad Echo Log Eridium Crust Pandora

To the end of creating an impenetrable galactic prison, the Eridians made Pandora's entire crust out of Eridium. Now some fan theories suggest that Eridium is the crystallized souls of dead Eridians. But BL3 definitively makes this theory impossible.

Nyriad describes it as the "shell that now holds the Destroyer tightly in its bonds". She goes onto say that "disrupting the cycle" could cause the Eridium to "come to the surface". However, if Sirens can juice up with Eridium, maybe the aliens didn't create it after all.

1 💜 They Can Traverse Dimensions

Borderlands Eridians Eleseer Sentinel battle

This might be a point of contention, but enough circumstantial evidence supports the conclusion. Beyond the obvious connection to Vaults and how the pocket prisons work, there's the question of Siren abilities. Phasewalk literally takes Lilith through another dimension -- one that appears visually similar to what is seen with the Vaults. It's all purple y'all.

Zarpedon gains enhanced abilities that are Siren-like after her exposure to "purple sludge" (read: not slag). Phaseleech also literally turns people into Eridℱium which is a powerful enough item to imprison a world eater. The Eridians, Eridium, Siren abilities, and dimensional travel are all co෴nnected.

But if they are powerful enough to achieve inter-dimensional travel, that must mean that the Destroyer really IS aptly named. So then why did it freak out so hard when it got sl🏅ag in its eye? There are 🉐too many questions and no answers.
