Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a Metroidvani🧸a-style game that came out in June 2019 on the P♏S4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
The game was developed by former Castlevania series producer Koji Igarashi so it's considered a spiritual sucessor to the beloved series. Igarashi left Konami in 2014 and Bloodstained was born from fans requesting a new title in the style of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - and a Kickstarter inspired by fan wishes. The crowdfunding raised more than $5.5 million, far exceeding the original goal, so Igarashi got to work and Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon was released in May 2018. Ritual of the Night - an actual full-blooded game - followed a year later.
Ritual of the Night has received an array of free content updates and it's still being supported. Its developer, ArtPlay, have confirmed a few details about an upcoming update which involves a new playable character.
"We can confirm that this new character is NOT from the world of Bloodstained," a production announcement . "We have been working closely with a well-known partner to bring their character (and a friend) into the game.ꦇ"
The blog post also said they are "tackling"ܫ; technical issues that have slowed down production and that there🌼 is no release timeframe.
However, the new playable character that's coming to the game will be a character from a different game world. No clues have been provided, but reading the developer's words closely it could be a character who has an NPC companion ("and a friend"), and also it could be from another Japanese game series, as it's a "well-known partner".
The post continued to say the new game character will be able to explore the entire map, though players will have to acquire certain abilities before they can access certain areas and bosses. As with previous characters you will be able to increase the rank and class of the character's special abilities as you progress.
After this new playable character is introduced, the next update for the game includes Chaos Mode with co-op and a VS mode with multiplaye💯r.
