Wandering Wight is no exception, one of the first proper bosses you'll encounter in the game's first chapter. You might assume that would make him a bit of a pushover, but it unfortunately has a ton of health, hits like a truck, and is a real test of skill despite you having had less than an hour of playtime under your belt. Thankfully, we're here to give you a hand.
How To Prepare For Wandering Wight's Boss Fight
Before you dive into the fight, you'll want to make sure you have everything you need to improve your chances of victory. Black Myth: Wukong doesn't give you a lot of tools to begin with, but there are ce𒆙rtain items you can grab to make things ea꧒sier.
Evil Repelling Medicament is a handy medicine you can use to reduce the damage you take, and can be purchased from the area's shrine for pennies. Just be aware you'll only have a limited amount at the moment.
If you're running low on Will, you can try exploring the area for chests and tough enemies, as they have the chance to drop items. Make sure to sell your gold scraps too, as they're a very handy source of Will in a pinch.
Similarly, you can make yourself harder to kill and harder to hit by investing some Sparks in the game's skill tree to improve your health and stamina. You can also unlock certain skills to make your dodges use up less sꦯtamina, allowing you to be more evasive 𝄹as a result.
How To Beat Wandering Wight
Now that you're fully equipped, and your health is looking peachy, you can start attempting to take down Wandering Wight. You'll find it lumbering around a small clearing in the forest, but don't let its size fool you. This thing is quick on its feet when it wants to be, and will often chain together several moves in a row to keep you guessing.
It's also got some moves that can hit you at range and will hurt massively if they connect, but it's much less aggressive. You'll have plenty of opportunities to back away, compose yourself, heal up, and jump back into the fray when you're ready.
Apart from that, taking down Wandering Wight is just a matter of recognizing which attacks are coming and getting out of the way of them. Of course, that's easier said than done, but its strongest moves are telegraphed very clearly.

Wandering Wight usually uses this when you're keeping your distance. It will run forward fairly quickly while shouting, then clap the space in front of it. |
This move isn't too threatening, and you can easily dodge out of the way in any direction. |
Ground Slams |
Wandering Wight will arch back and then quickly strike the ground with an AoE attack. It will either do this once, or four times, with each one expanding in range with each attack. |
This can be tricky to dodge and can't be jumped over. Try to time your dodge to avoid damage from the first, and quickly get A LOT of distance if it doesn't get up after a couple of seconds. |
Jump And Slam |
Wandering Wight will run slightly, then jump through the air and slam the ground close to you, which is then often followed up by another leap or dif✱ferent attack. |
It's another move often used when there's distance between you. It does cover a deceptive amount of space though, so when you see Wandering Wight leap, dodge either left or right and then prepare for another attack. |
Jump And Dropkick |
Similar to the Jump And Slam, it will leap and kick you while in the air, and will often follow up with another attack. |
This move is a little quicker than Jump And Slam, and you deal with it by also dodging to the left or right. Do not dodge backwards. |
Ranged Blast |
Wandering Wight will lean back, and his hand will glow, after which he'll unleash a ranged blast that will hit regardless of how far apart you are. |
Once you see Wandering Wight's hand glow, dodge to the right or left. It will often finish off long combos with this move, and it hits really hard, but it does leav꧅e him open to attack for a substantial amount of time. |
Quick Sweeps |
By far the trickiest attack to gauge, Wandering Wight will sweep the ground in front of him at a range of speeds, and can use up to three sweeps in quick succession. Iꦿt will often use this after other attacks. |
It's almost impossible to know how many sweeps Wandering Wight will perform, so this is very reactive. You can easily dodge through the slower sweeps, but it's safer to back away from the quick ones. |
Quick Stomps |
It will raise one of its feet and then perform a small stomp, usually followed up by a second with the opposite foo𒈔t, but not always. |
Simply dodge in any direction to get away from this, but bꦅe prepared for a fo༺llow-up attack. |
Charge And Slam |
Wandering Wight will run forward slightly and then slam the ground with both hands, causing a large AoE blast. Often used when at close range. |
Another tricky one to dodge, especially mid-attack. It's too quick to get away from, so you'll need to recognize the small run and then dodge at the right time. |
Headbutt |
It will quickly arch backwards and then slam the ground with its head. |
You can dodge in any direction to get away from this, but the speed makes it tricky. Thankfully,🧔 it does seem to be used very rarely. |
Most of these attacks are used very quickly, one after another, with one of the more powerful attacks to end the combo. It's important to remain cool, try not to dodge spam, and you'll find your openings.
Wandering Wight Strengths And Weaknesses
Wandering Wight is very strong at close range, often stringing together several attacks at once, but still has some strong attacks that it can use at range. It's a menace and can take you down in just a couple of hits if you fail to read it properly, but he does have one big weakness.
More often than not, Wandering Wight's strongest attacks will leave him exposed for a long time. It's Ranged Blast is one such move which it will often use, but if you can close the distance quickly after dodging it, you can get a full light combo in. That will st൲agger him, and sometimes even knock him over, alཧlowing you to pile on even more damage.
If you do knock him over, consider using your Immobilize spell while he's getting up. It'll let you deal more damage and stagger him again too, letting you recover your stamina, heal, or whack him some more.
Get up close, stay on the defensive, pick your moments to smack it about, and use Immobilize often, and you should have Wandering Wight down. If all else fails, remember that Black Myth: Wukong isn't like most soulslikes. If you're really struggling, you can always grind against enemies for more Sparks, which you can use to increase your damage and health. You'll take it down eventually, and the game gets much easier from here.
