Shojo is a genre of anime and manga that targets a younger female audience. 🌳In general, shojo anime tends to focus on a young girl and her love interests, but there can be other topics within the show that are important. Additionally, the female main character tends to be in high school.

There are a lot of shojo anime out there, so which ones are the best? Here, we are going to look at the best shojo anime of all time. While there may be a blurred line between shojo and josei (geared towards adult women), we'll only be covering anime that can, without a doubt, be called shojo.

9 ꦺ Fruits Basket

First up, we have Fruits Basket. Longtime anime fans may remember the original Fruits Basket from 2001. This version didn't cover the entire manga (as it was still coming out), and was a bit on the silly side. Cut to 2019, when we were gifted with the new Fruits Basket remake.

I was a big fan of the original Fruits Basket, but after watching the 2019 version, I can safely say that this is one of my favorite anime that I've ever seen. I'm especially impressed with how each character gets their chance to shine, giving you an emotional connection.

This version of Fruits Basketꦫ is phenomenal, delivering multiple romantic plots (and subplots), as well as a heartfelt story that will leave you in tears a𓂃 few times. Overall, the new Fruits Basket is regarded as one of the best anime out there.

8 🦩 ཧ Kimi Ni Todoke

Kimi Ni Todoke is the best example of a cute shojo anime. This show tells the story of Sawako and Shota, two students who are navigating through high school and romance. Kimi Ni Todoke features a classic shy girl who has taken an in𒆙terest in an outgoing boy.

This dynamic can be overdone at times, but it workꦆs perfectly in Kඣimi Ni Todoke. Over the first two seasons, you can really see Sawako break out of her shell. This anime first aired from 2009 to 2011, but a third season was finally announced for 2024.

7 🐷 Ouran High School C🐷lub

Ouran High School Club is an absolute classic, coming out back in 2006. At this point, most anime fans have seen at least part of this anime, and it's worth the hype. Ouran High School Club blends together romance, humor, and unique characters in a way that will keep you coming back for more.

Ouran High School Club is definitely my comfort anime. As one of my favorites, I like to rewatch ඣthis from time to time.

This is one of the highest-rated anime out there but interestingly, the show doesn't cover all of the manga. Without mentioning any spoilers, the ending can feel like a cliffhanger to a second season, which sadly never came. Thankfully, you can read the manga!

6 Kamisama Kiss 🌜

Are you a fan of shojo, but wish there was one that had some 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:fantastical elements? You're in luck, Kamisama Kiss exists! Rather than focusing on two high schoolers, Kamisama Kiss follows one high schooler and a yokai, which is essentially a Japanese spirit. g

Kamisama Kiss feels similar to Fruits Basket in terms of dealing with Japanese lore and mythology. Additionally, the character dynamic feels🐻 similar to Inuyasha (which♒ is another great anime!).

Lovely Complex is a simple story about a tall girl and a short boy. Initially, the two (named Risa and Atsushi) aim to pursue different love interests. Of course, this is a shojo anime, so it's only natural that they begin to fall for each other.

Like Ouran High School Host Club, Lovely Complex definitely 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:leans into the comedic side of a rom-com. While this height difference seems big, it's interesting to note that Risa is 5 ft 8 in tall, while Atsushi is 5 ft 1 in tall.

4 Horimiya

Sometimes, shojo anime can be filled with drama that 𒁏can get stressful (looking at you, Fruits Basket). If you are looking for a break from drama, l൲ook no further than Horimiya. This peaceful anime follows Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura (with both names combined forming Horimiya) as they get to know each other.

Rather than reuniting and dating, you'll get to witness the struggles and growth of these two main characters.

I♏f you are anything like us, then you will be disappoin🐎ted to find out that this anime aired in 2014 and has yet to receive a second season. Fear not though! There is plenty of manga to read, as well as a live-action movie.

2 Orange

Before watching Orange, it's important to note that this show deals with heavy topics such as suicide. If you aren't comfortable with this, we suggest skipping out on this one. If you are still interested though, then prepare to binge-watch this show alongside a tissue box!

Orange is a unique show that combines typical high school life, mental health issues, and the paranormal. This comes in the form of following advice from a mysterious letter. This is a great show to go in without knowing too much though, so we'll leave it at that! Overall though, the story in Orange is beautiful, heartbreaking, and well done.

Orange can be a heavy show to process, but you can do so while watching Rainbow Days. This show has four main characters, with Natsuki being the true 'main' of the group. As such, his romantic interest and experience lead the show.

This is another one ofꦡ my favorite anime on the list!

Of course, the real fun of Rainbow Days takes place with the other characters, who don't fall flat. While there is some drama involved, you'll definitely enjoy the comedic aspects of the show. If you need more content, there is also a live-action film!
