Princesses have been a part of video games since almost the beginning. While they're most commonly thought of as being helpless maidens in need of rescuing (and there are a lot of games where that's their entire role), many of gaming's most enduring characters hold a royal title. Whether they started out as heroines in their own right or grew from humble beginnings as damsels in distress, gaming has had lots of unforgettable princesses throughout the years.
From mystical monarchs to daring adventuresses, the princesses on this list represent the best ever to wear a crown. These heroines span the entire history of gaming, and we're sure there will be plenty of worthy successors down the line.
7 🌊 The Princess Of Moonbrooke (D🔯ragon Quest 2)
The Princess of Moonbrooke — whose name is chosen by the player but is sometimes referred to as Princessa — is one of the first playable women in JRPGs (and video games in general). She is the first major character introduced in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Quest 2 as Hargon's forces destroy her kingdom, leaving her fate unknown.
She eventually joins her cousins, the princes of Midenhall and Cannock, and the three descendants of Erdrick set off to end the threat of Hargon once and for all. As the granddaughter of the Hero from the original Dragon Quest, the Princess of Moonbrooke has several powerful spells at her ൲disposal. Her magic can end fights on its own... provided the player keeps her MP full, of course.
6 Rosella Of Daventry (King's Quest)
Rosella is the protagonist of King's Quest 4 and 7, with appearances in several other games including the 2015 epilogue/reboot. If you're a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:fan of adventure games, the series is practically required playing. Although her first appearance is as a damsel in distress at the end of King's Quest 3, she immediately turns around to become the premier adventurer of Daventry's royal family. Within less than twenty-four hours, Rosella:
- Gets rescued from a three-headed dragon
- Finds out her rescuer is her long-lost twin brother
- Watches her father have a heart attack
- Gets teleported across the world to find a magical healing fruit
- Tames a unicorn
- Swims in a wool dress through shark-infested waters
- Gets swallowed by a whale
- Evades a bloodthirsty troll in pitch darkness
- Lays a mansion full of ghosts to rest
- Steals a potentially world-ending magic item from a cursed tomb
- Kills the Wicked Fairy Lolotte by shooting her in the heart with magic arrows while she sleeps
- Seals the aforementioned world-ending magic item back away into the same tomb
- Turns down a marriage proposal from a guy she just met (who is also the son of the woman she just killed)
- Gets teleported back to Daventry
- Saves her father's life
...and that's just her first adventure! Rosella goes on another journey alongside her mother a few years later which, while not as much of a whirlwind, still cements her as a paragon of wits and courage.
5 Edelgard Von Hresvelg (Fire Emblem: Three H𒁏ouses)
Edelgard may be a student when Byleth meets her in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but she immediately proves herself a capable leader and expert fighter. As heir to the Adrestian throne, she takes her responsibilities seriously while providing leadership to the Black Eagle House at the Garreg Mach Officers' Academy.
Despite her discipline, Edelgard is far from harsh, only dropping the hammer when needed and otherwise treating her subordinates with empathy and respect. Edelgard is the kind of leader people follow out of earned loyalty rather than her titlℱe.
4 Peach (Super ꧅Mario Brothers)
The Mushroom Kingdom's monarch is best known for being kidnapped over and over and over again, but she has many accomplishments to her name whenever she's not on an extended stay at Bowser's castle. In addition to being a world traveler and Olympic athlete, Peach can throw down in a fight - she's a master of improvised weapons, using everything from vegetables to golf clubs. Her hip-check shatters bones, and she can even fly (sort of). While some might argue 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:that a neighboring monarch dꦡeserves this spot, Prince♈ss Peach ﷽has earned her place among video game royalty.
3 𝐆 Zelda (The Legend Of Zelda) 𒅌
While it's true that the Princess of Hyrule is often in need of rescuing, that's typically because her enemies need to neutralize her considerable power if their plans for domination are to have any hope of succeeding. She's a master archer with fearsome magic, and her possession of the Triforce of Wisdom essentially makes her a cornerstone of the world. Technically, the Zelda in each game is a descendent of the original from Skyward Sword, and throughout her many lifetimes Zelda has taken on other identities, including the mysterious Sheik and the pirate Tetra. She's central to the ongoing tale of Hyrule, which is why the series is named for her and not Link. Now if only she could get her own game (and no,168澳洲幸运5开奖网: that one doesn't count.)
2 Garnet Til Alexandros XVII (Final Fantℱasy 9) 𒀰
The daughter of Queen Brahne of Alexandria, Garnet has led a sheltered life but possesses a strong moral compass and unflinching determination. When she grows leery of her mother's increasing tyranny, Garnet arranges her own kidnapping to seek help from her uncle in neighboring Lindblum.
She's eager to learn about the outside world, but for the first part of the game, she has a long way to go. Garnet undergoes a number of symbolic changes throughout the story as she learns more about her origins, the first of which is taking the name "Dagger" to better hide her identity while on the run. Her character arc is one of the strongest in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy and is one of the many reasons 𝓡FF9 is among the bꦛest in the series.
1 🍨 Marle (Chrono Trigger)
Born Princess Nadia of Guardia, Marle sneaks out of the castle for a day at the fair and inadvertently sets off a chain of events that will change the course of history... in both directions. The leading lady and primary healer of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Chrono Trigger is an all-around good person; she's kind, capable, and sharp as a tack. The only time she ever pulls rank is to get her father's soldiers to stand down. Marle is the driving force behind the game's entire storyline - not only does her chance meeting with Crono at the Millennial Fair set everything into motion, but saving the world is her idea. After seeing footage of the Day of Lavos during an accidental trip to the future, Marle comes up with the plan to use the Time Gate to prevent the terrible event, even though she will be long dead by the time it actually happens. Marle may not have the throne yet, but in our hearts, she's a Queen.
