Even in games intended to be light-hearted, you could see things were off. The uncanniness of early 3D visuals, the short render distances shrouding everything in a fog, and the rather liminal environments brought on by hardware limitations give a weird edge to titles when you return to them. This is probably why the aesthetic has become a popular visual style for modern horror titles. New developers are eager to pick up where the original 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Silent Hill left off.

Prepare for grainy visuals, surreal nightmares, g♓rief, and a fridge that never seems very far away. Right in the thick of grungy, low-fidelity visuals comes The Fridge is Red, an anthology horror based on a game about an evil appliance that eats people.

The game does not bombard you with monsters or murderers, instead placing you in warped hells🃏capes that hit a little too familiarly. Have you ever been lost in a hospital or trapped in an elevator? Have you ever had a bad dream where you need to get s🌱omewhere, but the world seems to be trying to stop you? The Fridge Is Red captures these feelings.

9 Bloodwash

In the gruesome slasher survival horror Bloodwash, you have to head out to a 24hr laundry place in the dead of night. A city at night is already pretty unsettling. A city at night with a serial killer on the loose, rendered firmly in the uncanny valley of '90s-era 3D, is something else entirely.

You can interact with a few of the colorful characters you're likely to find at an all-night retail area, read some magazines, and potentially get murdered. How convenient to get all those in one place.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cities at night are unsettling. Working alone is unsettling. PS1 visuals are unsettling. All of these unite to ruin your day in Japanese indie horror The Convenien🐎ce Store. You take the role of an unfortunate minimum wage worker saddled with the graveyard shift at the only lit-up area in a big, dark urban sprawl. You have tasks to carry out and a boss to keep off your back.

2 Alisa

While some games use the older aesthetic purely for its unsettling nature, some games are love letters to games of the era. Alisa is one such example. With pre-rendered backgroun♎ds, FMVs, and even the dreaded tank controls intact, the game feels almost exactly the same as old survival horror.

You play the titular Alisa, who wakes up in a strange house of hostile, animated dolls. You 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:grapple with puzzles, shoot wandering enemies, and make deals with an NPC who is just a hand puppet on someone's hand. It's not an easy game, though that's probably another part that's true to the source material.
