If there's one subgenre of horror that gets an overabundance of entries each year, it's sharks. While shark movie masterpieces are rare, and most are released either straight-to-DVD or streaming and come with very low-🧜budget effects and CGI, there are some out there that are still equal parts entertaining and terrifying to watch.

In 1975, Jaws set the standard for shark movies, even earning three Oscars and being nominated for Best Picture, and there's nothing thaꦑt has ever come close to it since, though some films really tried. Here are the shark movies that rise above the surface and go for a satisfying chomp.

10 🌼 Sharknado Series ༒

Sharknado is one of those shark movies that's so bad that it's good, so much so that it launched a franchise comprised of 🤪six installments𝄹. The incredibly entertaining and outlandish concept here is of a super tornado hitting Los Angeles that unleashes sharks upon the denizens, with a main cast comprised of Ian Ziering, Tara Reid, John Heard, and Cassie Scerbo.

The shark action is very over-the-top, the acting is your stereotypical 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:B-movie fare, and the shark CGI is comically unrealistic, but th𝓀ese films are always a fun time when you suspend disbelief. Each Sharknado installment brings new celebrity cameos and sees the destruction hit new parts of the US, with the final installment even introdu๊cing time travel.

It's another unique premise and a very interesting and harrowing situation to be stuck i♚n, especia🌞lly since the store was being robbed right before the tsunami.

The survivors must avoid the Great White by finding shelter on tall groc🐲ery shelves and other makeshift islands, while also working together to defeat the 12-foot-long foe and try to escape. The shark design is miles better than most films, the gore is excellent, and there are lots of suspenseful set pieces.

7 The Reef

The Reef is almost like the plot of the horror film Triangle, except that, instead of the main group of friends being caught in a storm while on a sailboat and getting sent through a never-ending time loop, they are in the realistic ꦐsituation of being stranded in the middle of the ocean after their yacht hits a reef and a shark comes right in their path.

It's an unnerving and paranoia-filled survival tale of fleeing the open water when you꧟'re far away from any signs of land, and not knowing how close a shark could be to you. The Reef is also based on a true story fr🌸om an incident that occurred on the Great Barrier Reef in 1983.

6 🐼 47 Meters Down

If you've ever thought about cage-diving with sharks, you'll probably want to rethink it after watching 47 Meters Down. This movie stars Claire Holt and Mandy Moore as sisters Kate and Lisa, who charter a boat to go cage-diving while on their vacation in Mexico, with their captain played by the star of Stranger Things and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket, Matthew Modine.

When in the underwater cage, things quickly take a turn for the worse, with the cable snapping and sending the two sisters to drop 47 m♕eters down to the bottom. 5 Meg 2: The Trench ✤

The 2023 sequel to Meg managed to be even better than its predecessor, which still isn't saying much, but it really took advantage of the other terrifying environment and creatures lurking in the unknown depths of the Mariana Trench.

It's still very over-the-top, but Meg 2 ultimately has a better storyline, with the greater spotlight on the giant octopus and all 🐭th🤪e new underwater action scenes elevating this film. It also has a great horror filmmaker behind it, Ben Wheatley, and among the cast is Melissanthi Mahut, who voices Kassandra in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey.

4 𝕴 ꦕ Under Paris

Under Paris is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:an international shark horror film from French𓄧 filmmaker Xavier Gens, the directorꦦ of the 2007 Hitman adaptation, 2023's Mayhem!, and 2017's Cold Skin. It can definitely be described as the Gra♚vity of the shark genre, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra of Orphan, Carry-On, and Jungle Cruise fame.
