It can be easy to get caught up in the numbers of armour. For a lot of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons players, armour represents your Armour Class alone (which measures how difficult you are to hit in battle), alongside a couple of situational hazards - most house rules restrict swim speed in some way while wearing heavy armour, and sometimes even medium armour. Baldur's Gate 3 keeps the Armour Class rule, though as you don't see the dice being rolled we can sometimes forget what this represents. But Baldur's Gate 3 has far more depth to its armour, especially into Act 3, which complicates things.

While armour with an AC of 17 is probably better than an AC of 10 (as long as the wearer can use what is likely heavy armour), the numbers matter less when they're closer together. AC 12 looks better than AC 10, but if the AC 12 is just AC 12 and nothing more, while the AC 10 armour grants +1 bonus to Spell Save DC and spell attack roll and lets you regain 1-6 hit points when you succeed on a spell Saving Throw, it feels like the 12's numerical advantage diminishes.

That AC 10 armour I just described is real, and is the Robe of the Weave, which I naturally gave to Gale. But there’s another late-game AC 10 armour, Wavemother's Robe, which offers very little - you can Create or Destroy Water, you can heal 1-4 only if you’re standing in water (a rarity), and you resist Fire and Cold (highly situational). Despite this, the Wavemother’s Robe has become an iconic piece of armour.

The Robe is earned for completing Avenge the Drowned, is a blue tunic with mermaid scale ripples in worship of the goddess Umberlee, and comes with an extremely low cut neckline and extremely high cut legline. Change it from mermaid scales to red silk and it's like something Lara Croft might have worn in the mid-'00s.

Despite the relative uselessness of the Robe, Avenge the Drowned is one of Baldur's Gate 3's best quests and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:one of my 💎all-time personal favourite levels.

My main party always had Karlach, then operated on a rotation of Gale, Lae'zel, and Shadowheart, with Jaheira making cameos - I loved her, but her late arrival and lack of personal quest meant she never felt as connected to my story as the others. Gale had his own potent magic garb, and Jaheria wore the Armour of Moonbasking that aided Wild Shape. Karlach and Lae'zel needed much more protection than AC 10 no matter how good it looked, and with Shadowheart able to wear medium armour and often used to crash into hoards with Spirit Guardians, I didn't want her left vulnerable for minor and situational protection.

So, if none of my party could wear it, that meant the Wavemother’s Robe needed to go into storage. But that feels like a huge waste. Why couldn't I equip it as camp clothes, relinquishing all potential benefits, and just wear it for fashion? We can already wear camp clothes that offer no buffs and have the game act as if we're in full plate, so what's the harm?

By the end of the game, I decided sisters should do it for themselves, and had Karlach, Shadowheart, and Lae'zel with me all the way to the end of the line. Myself and Karlach wore Figaro's garments, me in the Angelic Scion Outfit and Karlach in the Elegant Robe, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:turning us into Greek Goddesses. Shadowheart also had something from Figaro's stash but 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:eventually changed into Harleep's undies, while Lae'zel remained in full armour, the only one of our crew to do so. I would have loved to have her in the Robe of the Weave, or any of the statistically middling but visually engrossing armours we pick up along the way.

The game even denotes these as 'Clothes', classifying the more sturdy armours as, well, 'Armour'. Yet you can't wear these clothes as clothes, only as armour, making the distinction a little pointless. The game is free spirited enough to let us run around naked and still be able to tank -2 Slashing damage like we're wearing thick sheets of metal wrapped in leather. It's a small thing in the grand scheme of everything Baldur's Gate 3 gets right, but I really, really liked that dress.
