I used to be a pretty serious Achievement hunter. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I had Lost: Via Domus, Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Burning Earth, and Forza Horizon 2 Presents Fast & Furious - my fellow cheevo gang knows what I'm talking about. Achievements used to add an extra layer to games, offering specific challenges to complete or pushing you to try new playstyles. It felt like developers had fun with them too. But over time, it was clear they became cumbersome to include, and gaming bragging rights became dominated by battle passes and skins - things companies could charge for rather than just silly little goofs you did for your own sake. Most Achievements and Trophies are story beats these days, but one Trophy in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur's Gate 3 has got me back in the habit.

The Trophies in Baldur's Gate 3 are pretty typical of modern gaming. Most of them are doled out for plot specific milestones, or for standard behaviour like taking four Long Rests or shoving someone to their doom. However, there are a couple that honour the time old (or at least, Xbox 360 old) tradition of classic Achievement hunting, and they both involve alcohol. In trying to complete thes🍸e goals, I realised alcohol was in startling short supply in Faerun.

This makes the two Trophies I'm hunting rather difficult. The first requires a Long Rest using only alcohol as my supplies, and the second involves defeating 20 enemies while at least one party member is drunk. I'm not sure how much alcohol is required to get someone drunk, or if people have different constitutions - Karlach and Astarion feel like seasoned drinkers in a way that Shadowheart and Wyll do not. That's because I am entirely devoted to saving up enough alcohol to reach 40 supplies, and won't waste a single drop until then.

Player Finds Button To Open Wine Cask Under Elfsong Tavern

Even leaving aside the whole Illithid thing going on in your brain, Faerun doesn't seem the cosiest of places. While the Act 1 map is the brightest and most friendly in the game, it still features bloodthirsty gnolls, a goblin slave prison, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a manipulative hag's den, and is wandered by githyanki armies and a treacherous devil - and that's before you arrive with your wizard/nuclear bomb friend, your vampire pal, your Shar-worshipping associate, and your infernally powered beau. Beyond this there's a cheery spider's den and the Underdark itself - if you lived here, you'd need a drink.

Maybe that's why it's in short supply - everyone hoards it for themselves. Sure, you'll find a nice Baldurian red here and there as you pick bodies clean, but mostly it's potions, gold, raggedy clothes, and empty bottles you'll loot from the dead. As for the traders, most of them sell a small amount of something or other, but while they're happy to charge outrageous prices for armour and weapons you can easily find for free (bloodstains included), you can only get a meagre amount of liquor from each merchant.

In Act 2, there's even a disused tavern where the bartender is drinking poison, and forces you to drink with him, with only Sleight of Hand rolls saving you. Once he's good and dead, you can raid his cellar. I thought this might finally be my solution, but instead it contained only empty bottles. I'm about ten supplies shy right now and can't go back to the earlier vendors to check if they're restocked with enough to top me over the edge.

I have no idea if there is a special scene unlocked for this, if anything changes the night after (do companions wake up groggy or even still drunk enough for me to slay 20 bandits?), or if things just continue as usual. Maybe it's no different than if cobbled together from supplies like cheese, coffee, and that weird sausage you can also use as a sword. I also don't care. Just as it used to be when Achievement hunting was in style, the Trophy itself is its own reward. It would be neat to see Karlach with a sore head, Gale tucking into a fried breakfast, and Lae'zel downing the githyanki equivalent of Red Bull (Scarlet Rothe?), but that little 'pop' in the top right hand corner is enough for me.

Baldur's Gate 3: Party Members Resting At Camp

You're never short of things to do in Baldur's Gate 3, free to tackle every problem however you like. But it still feels like something more involved to chase down Trophies in this way. Karlach is aware she's in a video game, so why not my player-character, right? Trophies and Achievements are their own reward, and that's going to make my first drink in camp all the sweeter.
