The archfey warlock brings something to the classic Dungeons & Dragons party that is difficult to put a name to. Sadly, the greatest bit of roleplaying fun of terrifying NPCs and party members whenever they give out their name is less doable in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 Player Beats Honour Mode By Walking Enemies To Death
These boots were made for slaughtering.
This isn't to say the archfey war🎃lock has nothing to offer. The subclass offers a strong combination of defensive abilities and control spells, making them a challenge to kill and a good candidate for honour mode playthroughs where you need a designated survi🍸vor to escape from losing fights. Here's how to build one.
The Best Pact For An Archfey Warlock
For this build, we'll take Pact Of The Chain. This gives the archfey more of w🔯hat they already want in survivability tools.
The imp familiar's invisibility is a good source of reconnaissance in a game where a bad ambush can end your honour mode run. Whenever you're first exploring an area, have your imp ✨scout it out as much as po🍸ssible.
You mostly don't want to use the familiar in combat, but it can waste enemy bonus actions on trying to detect invisible foes and absorb one or two attacks that would otherwise hit important people.
Neither of the other two pacts are bad for a ཧfey warlock. If you ꦏhave a strong attachment to one, you can adjust your playstyle to incorporate them:
- Pact of the Blade is not unviable for archfey warlocks but requires a radically different build and feat loadout. The Blink spell is one of the strongest defensive tools in the game, letting your warlock go to town in melee and then spend enemy turns chilling in the astral plane.
- Pact Of The Tome struggles early on if playing the entire game without respecs. The cantrips it offers you do little to help your build, and the daily spells it offers are all concentration: You really don't want to be casting Haste when Blink breaks your concentration.
The Best Spells For An Archfey Warlock
The Archfey gives some nice spell options that a warlock wouldn't traditionally have access to. The downside is that many of them don't benefit from being upcast in a warlock slot.
Consider when picking spells that you have 🅠at least some options that will scale into the late game.
Spell |
Effect |
Use |
---|---|---|
Blink |
At the end of each turn, you have a 50 per cent chance to become untargetable until your next turn. |
You'll want to be casting this spell in almost every combat. It gives you amazing staying power that doesn't rely on your AC or saving throws. |
Create an area of extremely difficult terrain that quarters move speed. There is no saving throw to negate the effect. |
This spell controls movement in a way that pairs well with repelling blasts. Unfortunately, the Tasmanian blue gum eucalyptus the spell conjures will simultaneously explode i🌳f any character drops a lit cigarette. |
|
Thro♔w out several damaging beams that sca♍le to level. |
Fire resistance is common, but this remains one of the stronger single-target spells. |
|
Teleport a large distance, allowing the Warlock to escape any losing fight. |
While nerfed from its tabletop counterpart, it still boasts a nice range. This spell will normally be all you need to get out of dangerous situations. |
|
Knock out a numbe🦄r of enemies below a certain hit point total. |
This🥂 spell scales to level very well in a Warlock's toolk🅰it. Baldur's Gate gives perfect control 𒅌of the targeting, so you don't need to worry about weakened allies being affected. |
|
Negate an enemy spell as a reaction. |
Counterspell's strengt𒁏h is normally dependent on 🍰whether the DM announces a spell's name before or after allowing people to counter it. In BG3, the name is given upfront so you can save your slots for strong spells without getting baited into countering a cantrip. |
Your mystic arcanum is the reward for actually playing a Warlock from levels o🦂ne to twelve and not using them as a two-level m꧂ulticlass dip.
is the strongest spell available to Warlocks at this level.
Most control spells weaken as a fight goes on, and enemies break free of the effect. Eyebite is the rare option that lets you debuff a greater number of enemies as time goes on. You'🐠ll typically use the panic version of the spell since s𝕴leep can be broken with a bonus action by any nearby ally.
Modded games can choose from a broader spell list. The most notable are the broader options available for teleportation spells. Thunder step adds damage that dimension door lacks, while far step can be recas𝓡t for free and conserve your spell slo🃏ts.
Invocations
You'll start with two invocations that both shouꦗl🐻d go into upgrading your bread and butter eldritch blast.
- Agonising Blast is a boring but effective increase to the size of your damage numbers. You'll want to save your warlock spells for situations where they provide a strong advantage or bail you out of dangerous situations.
- Repelling Blast is already a strong ability, made stronger with the fey warlock's access to Plant Growth. Its value increases as you learn what enemies you can safely push off cliffs without risking loot.
Beyond these first two, you have a lot more freedom in invocations you take when leveling up. Most giv🍨e specific situational uses that will vary with the composition of your💛 team outside the one character.
Invocation |
Effect |
When To Take It |
---|---|---|
Armour of Shadows |
This gives you a handy boost to your AC in a class that otherwise can't defend itself. |
If your party has a wizard who prepares , you can skip this invocation. |
Beast Speech |
Can speak with animals at will. To anyone who played Larian's previous games, this will seem compulsory as events and sometimes entire quests will be gated behind the ability to speak to squirrels. |
Barbarians gain the same feature for free and at a lower level 𓆏but often lack the charisma to make best ꦆuse of it. |
Beguiling Influence |
Gain proficiency in Deception and Persuasion, two of the Warlock's most important skills. |
If your warlock does not have these skills already, this is your chance to gain them. |
Devil Sight |
Ignore the effects of mundane and magical da💞rkness. |
Paired with any character who makes frequent use of magical darkness, this becomes an amazing power. |
Modded playthroughs may have access to invocations from a wider range🍎 of sourcebooks. Here are a few standouts:
- Eldritch Mind lets you keep concentration on important spells like Eyebite.
- Lance of Lethargy stacks a movement debuff onto the knockback of Repelling Blast. Combined with Eldritch Spear that increases range you'll be fighting at long enough distances that the combat AI struggles.
Best Feats For An Archfey Warlock
Without multiclassing, you can expect three feats by the time you complete the campaign. You'll need to invest at least three points into Charisma to keep your spells and blasts at full power. This locks two of our options as an ability score increase and a half-feat.
- At level four, the Actor feat gives expertise in deception and a point of charisma. Half-feat options are limited, but this is a good choice regardless.
- Level eight is the best time to take that ASI (Ability Score Improvement) and reach 20 Charisma.
- Spell Sniper is a pleasant enough choice for a level 12 capstone feat. Eldritch Blast rolls lots of attack dice, so every increase to critical chance is magnified.
A playthrough using mind flayer powers can choose to forgo the Actor feat. The Illiithid expertise elite power grants the ꦏsa🍎me expertise bonus.
Playstyle And Equipment For A Fey Warlock In Baldur's Gate 3
The archfey warlℱock leans into the thematics of what t♋he fey are meant to be: Incredibly annoying to deal with.
In combat, you'll be throwing Eldritch Blasts at long range and repositioning constantly. Enemies will be tempted to chase you as a target with low AC and mediocre HP scaling, letting you snare them in Plant Growth or evade them with Blink.
Expertise in Deception means your warlock will do well as the party representative. Most o꧋f the skill checks that snap to the focus character are charisma-based, which you'll be maxing out as early as possible anyway.
Equipment For An Archfey Warlock
Another team contribution the fey warlock offers is their low reliance on items and gear. Martial classes will be invested in getting the best weapons at any time, while your warlock cantr🧸ip wilꦰl scale automatically.
Clerics and druids want the second-best picks from armour after the fighters have called dibs. There are still a few prior🃏ity items you'll want to get a hold of:
Item |
Effect |
Priority |
---|---|---|
Gain +2 charisma, going over 20. |
Charisma boosting items are rare and this hat has no proficiency requirements. It doesn't matter how many Dragon Kill Points you need to ca𒉰sh in; talk your team into letting you take this from Sorcerousꦫ Sundries. |
|
Potent Robes |
Gain temporary hitpo𝐆ints each turn and ༒deal bonus damage with cantrips |
This is your best-in-slot choice for armour. The temp HP reduces attrition, and the extra cantrip damage shines brightest in the hands of a warlock. |
Can cast ranged spells as melee attacks |
Daredevil Gloves allow you to blast melee attackers without needing to disengage, get hit, or take disadvantage. |
In your remaining item slots you can often take what items your remaining team doesn't need. Most of the strongest items have proficiency requirements your warlock doesn't meet. Other items you'll pick up as hand-me-down💙s.
Hand-Me-Down |

|
These are a great mobility aid on any melee fighter but are often forgotten about after upgraded a♍lternatives app♌ear. |
On your warlock's feet, they'll stack onto their ability to reposition quickly between attacks. |
|
This is a great martial weapon in Act One. Later on, the +1 modifier becomes obsolet🌟e for fighters. |
The buffing aura it provides does not require a character to actually use it as a weapon but simply needs▨ a free hand to hold it in. |
|
This is normally carried by clerics until they learn to cast by themselves. |
This amulet is a great emergency heal from the warlock, who🍬'll be blinked out when an area spell kills all their party members. |
Lastly, Bloodlust and Battlemage elixirs are easy to mass produce and can help the warlock either clean up weakened enemies or land attacks against high AC boss fights.
