But if you look hard enough, you can discover plenty of things about the character that aren't always abundant when playing the games. Here are the most important ones.

Layla's Time At Abstergo

When we met Layla at the start of Assassin's Creed Origins, she was already working for the enemy. More specifically, she was working for Abstergo, aka The Templars. They recruited her when she was in college.

The woman spent 12 years there and always tried to get a spot on the Animus Project. In fact, she said it was her dream. But the bosses never gave her ꦆthat position. Instead, they used her technological know-how on their projects and left her out of the loop. Nat💦urally, this frustrated her beyond belief.

Eventually, she started to work on her own portable Animus without the company's knowledge. She had help from her friend Deanna Geary, who also worked for Abstergo.

At one point, the two were sent on a mission to retrieve a historical artifact. While there, Layla set up the Animus and experienced Bayek of Siwa's memories, which served as the events of Assassin's Creed Origins. They kept this escapade secret from their Abstergo bosses, as Layla saw it as an opportunity to prove herself.

When Abstergo found out, though, both Layla and Deanna became targets.

How Layla Changed The Animus

Despite never technically being on The Animus Project, Layla made some significant advancements to the machine. Most of them were added to Abstergo's Animus design. Yet, she kept the most significant advancement to herself after falling out with the company.

That advancement allowed her to access memories of anyone, not just her own ancestors. Therefore, she could re-live the memories of Bayek of Siwa, Kassandra, Alexios, and Eivor over her series of games despite seemingly not being related to any of them. Naturally, this presents a significant change to Animus technology, as you no longer need people like Desmond Miles or his DNA to use the Animus.

Why Layla Joined The Assassins

Layla was never infatuated with the modern-day Assassins. In fact, she didn't initially care for them despite re-living the lives of Assassins from long ago. However, she was never a full Templar, either. She just wanted to advance in her career at Abstergo.

Yet, when she went behind the company's backs to re-live the memories of Bayek, her bosses attempted to take her out. Abstergo managed to kill her friend, Deanna, who was assisting Layla from a different location. Layla, on the other hand, managed to fend off Abstergo's hitmen and kill them first. Yet, Abstergo didn't give up, so she was still a target. And now she was a target with no back-up.

The father of Desmond and well-known Assassin William Miles managed to track Layla down. He offered to help her in exchange for her assistance in the Assassins' version of the Animus Project. She didn't entirely trust him and initially refused to become an official member of the Brotherhood. Yet, she reluctantly agreed to join forces since the alternative wasཧ Abstergo continually coming after and eventually killing her.

After being with the Assassins for a while, she grew to appreciate them and became an official member of the orga🅘nization.

Why Layla Became Darker And Angrier

At first, Layla seemed a bright-eyed and sweet person, but throughout the games, she changed. By Valhalla, she was more nihilistic and self-destructive. 𝓰Plus, she had a much shorter fuse. As a result, the Assassins implanted her with a mood stabilizer to keep her somewhat friendly.

The reason for this change in attitude is mostly a result of her holding the Staff of Hermes, which she was given by Kassandra.

It's a powerful item that can keep people alive for thousands of years. Yet, it can also corrupt the person wielding it.💙 Kassandra was able to avoid being corrupted, perhaps due to her excep𝓀tional power granted by her unusual DNA.

Layla is more ordinary, though, and she couldn't avoid some level of corruption. The bleeding effects she got from the Animus likely didn't help, either, as that can mess with someone's mind, too.

So, she became a much darker version of herself, but she still fought on the side of good and attempted to save the world. Therefore, she wasn't completely corrupted.

Layla's Fate

While working with the Assassins, Layla re-lived the memories of the Viking, Eivor. She did so because strange things were going on in the world as a result of the strengthening of the Earth's magnetic field. This created various disturbances and even some radiation. Plus, it was only getting worse as time went on.

Layla and the Assassins were informed that the way to fix things could be found through Eivor's memories. This ended up being true as Layla discovered the location of a strange supercomputer that allowed her to enter a digitౠal place called The Gre🌃y. While there, she was able to stop the impending catastrophe.

Well, technically, she didn't stop it. She just slowed it down. The world was still going to come to an end at some point. However, while in The Grey, she met a being called The Reader, who intended to stop the catastrophe forever.

He would look through all possible timelines, searching for a way to stop it. Layla decided to help him. This meant she h♑ad to stay in The ꦜGrey and give up her life to try to save the world.
