After leaving the Assassin compound, Desmond went to New York and became a bartender. He tried to stay hidden from the Assassins. Yet, Abstergo founꦯd 🍬him instead.

They knew about his past and the fact he was an Assassin. So, they abducted him to use as a test subject for their Animus project. This is because he had important genetic memories that the Animus could allow them to see. Their goal was to find the locations of the important artifacts known as the Pieces of Eden.

Desmond initially resisted the experiment. However, the person running t𝔉he test, Warren Vidic, warned him that they could put him in a coma and continue their work before allowing Desmond to die at the end of it. So, ⛄Desmond reluctantly agreed to help.

Why Desmond Changed His Mind About The Assassins

While he literally ran from them as a kid, Desmond willingly joined the Assassins once Lucy Stillman rescued him from Abstergo. His main reason for this was his newfound hate for Abstergo, aka The Templars.

After all, they did kidnap him, keep him as a prisoner, and threatened him with death if he didn't do what they said. That would convince pretty much anyone to fight against them. But in later years, Desmond also admitted to feeling like he had to be an Assassin. He felt it was just who he w🌳as, even though he previouslไy tried to run from it.

Why Desmond Is Special

Desmond is treated as a big deal throughout the games. Both the Assassins and Templars want to get their hands on him at different times. Plus, when he joins th🧸e former, he gets treated differently from others in the Order despite his initial lack of training or experience compare🍸d to other Assassins.

But why is he so special? The main reason is because of his ancestry. He is related to many different important Assassins throughout history. This makes him a perfect subject for🅺 use in the Animus because, in his time, the machine could only relive memories of people the user is re🌃lated to.

Also, along with being related to Assassins, he's got a good amount of First Civilization DNA in his body, and they are a special and powerful species that existed before humans. There are things these creatures can do that regular humans can't.

How Desmond Died

During Desmond's series of games, you were told about an impending solar flare that promised to wipe out human civilization. Desmond was intent on stopping it and, eventually🔯, found a☂ way to do so. It revolved around a temple.

When he got into the deepest chamber of the said temple, he met Juno, who was a member of the First Civilization. She informed him that by touching the special orb in front of her, he would stop humanity's incoming demise.

However, another member of the First Civilization then arrived named Minerva. She told Desmond that if he touched the orb, he would free Juno from captivity, and she would try to conquer the world. In the process, he would die.

Despite this, he still went through with stopping the Solar Flare, believing that humanity would at least have a chance at stopping Juno, whereas most of them were guaranteed to be wiped out by the Solar Flare. So, Desmond sacrificed his life for humanity.

What Happened To Desmond After He Died

When Desmond died, he didn't completely cease to exist. His corporeal form was dead, but his mind was transported to a place called The Grey. This is a sort of digital afterlife where consciou🐷snesses can go.

While there, Desmond became a being called The Reader, who reads through possible futures, looking for a way to save the world from another upcoming catastrophe. He isn't entirely Desmond, but he's the closest thing the world has left to the hero.
