The Campsite in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great way to cycle villagers into your island, whether you’ve got available plots or are trying to nudge someone into moving. Using this method to populate your ACNH island, you don’t have 💦to burn through Nook Mile Tickets or purchase Amiibo cards!
The catch to this cheaper alternative to filling out your island is that you need to win a card game your visitor asks to play, with them moving to your island if you win. Our guide below has all the t🏅ips you’ll need to win the ACNH card game.
Updated July 31, 2023 by Gabrielle Castania: Now that we've all had a bit more time to adjust to life on our tropical islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, we've got a bit more info about how the Campgrounds actually work. We've updated our article on the ACNH card game to reflect this new info to help you move your favorite Animal Crossing: New Horizons villagers onto your island that much quicker.
The Card Game Might Take A Few Tries
Before you begin trying to move a new villager in from the Campsite in ACNH, you should know that this process may take a while.
Not only will you have to win the card game against the visiting villager, but, if you have a full island already, you'll need to wait for the game to try to replace someone you're ready to klet go.
Additionally, there are a few variants of the card game, like when villagers will sometimes ask you to guess the suit of the card, or just the color instead.
You may also encounter villagers who don't ask to play cards when you suggest they 𒀰move to your isl🍌and, telling you outright that they like their home too much.
They'll break eventually and offer to play cards with you, so try not to think too hard about not taking no for an answer.
Even if it takes several tries, keep trying until you win if 🌳you have your heart set on your vi🐲siting villager.
You Might Not Even Need To Play Cards
While these tips are helpful for when villagers ask you to play a card game with them in ACNH, villagers can also accept your invitation outright, no game required.
This can also happen if you've lost the card game a number of times ꩲ- the villager seems to eventually fee✃l bad and cave in.
Keep Track Of How Many Times You've Asked The Villager To Move In
According to , winning the card game has slightly less luck than initially believed - they've found a system that works with tracking how many times you've asked this villager to move to your island.
The suits on the cards will often match up with how many times you've asked, meaning that if you know which number attempt you're on, you may be able to cheese right to victory.
- Heart: One time.
- Diamond: Two times.
- Spade: Three times.
- Club: Four times.
Once you reach the end of the list with Club cards, cycle back to Hearts and start again from there, repeating the numerical cycle.
Each time you ask, even if the villager declines, move down one suit in the numbered list above.
For example💧, if you ask the first time and they challengﷺe you to the card game immediately, choose Hearts for a likely victory. If they decline the first time but accept the second time, move down the list to Diamonds.
This isn't a guaranteed method, but Living With Perks claims this will work "nine times out of ten," but we've had success with this method ourselves.
How To Choose Who Leaves The Island
If you don't have a free plot available on your island when you ask the visiting villager to move in, don't worry! They'll still move in - they just kick out one of your existing villagers at random.
The visiting camper will ask if you're okay with their choice before finalizing it, and you have the chance to say no. However, doing so will reset the whole card game process.
A workaround for this is to save before you enter the tent. This way, if the visitor tries to evict someone you like, you're able to exit to the Switch's home menu, close the ACNH software, and relaunch it to try again.
The visiting villager will then most likely choose a different villager, so keep winning at cards until they choose someone you're willing to let go.
Using an Amiibo card to move a villager in will allow you to choose who the villager replaces, but the card game will always choose at random.
