While who you choose to play as largely comes down to preference, the storytelling will change depending on who you are in Alone In The Dark. The game is meant to be replayed using the other character.

There are some stark differences between playthroughs as Emily and Edward. There are certain cutscenes you may not see or items you may not collect if yo🌄u do not do two playthroughs, one as each character.

Lagniappes are what the game refers to as collectables. These collectables are random objects found in the world that contribute to different "sets". A full set of collectables can grant you certain items or benefits in the game.

The story is impact🐈ed by the motives of 💖each character:

We suggest playing as Emily first as the story is most fitting that way.

The orderlies recognize her as a Hartwood and the game makes more sense to have Emily running around looking for her uncle, as she has a personal connection to the story, whereas Edward doesn't.

Emily and Edward will find certain characters in different locations during the playthrough. For example, Emily can only find Ruth in the Library, whereas Edward finds her first in the Mezzanine. Their int🃏eractions are very different. Emily also finds the maid burying a cat in the garden during Chapter Two, which Edward never sees.

The conversation Edward has with Dr. Gray in Chapter One versus Emily's conversation is also different. More personal♑ information is revealed during Emily's conversation, information that can help players understand more ജabout what's going on. As an outsider, Edward only has surface-level with his knowledge, leaving him as clueless as the player.

ꦬAdded information in cutscenes unique to the character does not affect one's ability to bea꧑t the game, it just adds context.

Completed sets of Lagniappes does affect one's ability to beat the game, as it can unlock w🅘eapons and hints.
