2025 Is The Year I Finish Doom

Here’s a confession: I’ve never finished a Doom game. I’ve played quite a few of them - the 2016 reboot and Eternal, obviously, but some older ones too. The Flashlight One, The Very First One. Never finished any. That changes in 2025, all thanks to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Doom: The Dark Ages.

I don’t know why I haven’t ꦦfinished any. It’s not to do with how long, how hard, or even how good they are. I’ve persisted with games that were longer, harder, and that I lik🔥ed less. But I always fall off Doom, and I want that to change.

Doom Was Right At The Start Of My Gaming Journey

When I was a kid, I had a (probably illegal) disc with a bunch of PC games on it. This was my first introduction to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Q-Bert, Galaga, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Golden Axe, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Monkey Island, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Oregon Trail, and, of course🐻, Doom. It had PC GAMES written on it in marker pen. It came in a cracked CD case with no front or back cover, but down the spine it had Boyzone - A Different Beat printed. Now that I think about it, it was definitely illegal.

This sort of disc didn’t encourage you to stick with a single game. You do𒊎n’t go to a buffet and fill up on just one thing, not even crab claws. I think the game I played the most was some cowboy shooꦚting gallery game whose legacy has been lost to time, probably because it was always the same when you booted it up, unlike the other games where you had a story to keep up with. I guess not really Q-Bert. Or Galaga. Maybe I just had bad taste.

That’s my reason for not sticking with the first game, and that feels like a legitimate one. As for the 2016 version, I got it a couple of years after it came out. I had taken a bit of a gaming break, and belatedly upgrading to a PS4 brought me back into it. I traded in my 360 and a bunch of its games for a load of games I’d missed in the last couple of years - 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Neir: Automata, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:God of War, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Horizon Zero Dawn, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Witcher 3, and, of course again, Doom.

Again, I think this one is excusable. I dipped into them all, and Doom just naturally shuffled its way to the bottom of the pile. By the time Eternal rolled around I was working freelance, and needed to write things that offered juicy content. Eternal was fairly light on hot take generation compared to fellow 2020 games 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Last of Us Part 2, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Ghost of Tsushima, and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Cyberpunk 2077, and casual gaming time was given to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which famously Barbenheimered with Eternal.

The Dark Ages Has Me All In

The rest of them? I either don’t remember my excuses or I just don’t have them. ♎For one reason or another, I just gave up. So I’m writing this partly as accountability for myself to stick with The Dark Ages, and partly so (whether I do or don’t) I have something to write about and an article to link back to. You always gotta think three steps ahead in this game, baby!

The beauty of Doom is that you can always pick it up. There is lore behind it, but the series can be summed up in two and a half words: rip ‘n’ tear. I’m looking forward to both♛ ripping ‘n’ tearing in 2025, and with a bit of persistence, I’ll be doing it all the way to the end of the line.

The Dark Ages is no𝓰t going to inspire me to go back and play the earlier Dooms. If I end up loving it so much I consider it a GOTY contender, then it might just tempt me, but I certainly won’t be trying to ‘catch up’ beforehand. However, I ha🌼ve played enough of those games to want to stick with The Dark Ages. While its own appeal is a factor, a major pull is the unfinished business I have with the series. This year, I’ll finish Doom or die trying.
